Looks like there’s still hope for a third player in the
telecommunications market in the Philippines as San Miguel has expressed
that it will still launch its own high speed Internet service even
without a partner.
In an interview with Inquirer, San Miguel Corp. (SMC) President Ramon
S. Ang said that the company could launch its LTE high speed Internet
service even without a partner. “Nobody can stop this anymore. When we
launch, we expect to lure subscribers right away with better quality and
cheaper Internet.” Ang said.
Ang also revealed that the company is already testing its service and
would roll out within this year. “We won’t switch it on until it’s
perfect.”
SMC and Telstra are in discussions concerning the joint telecoms
venture since last year but no agreements have been reached so far. The
Australian telco
also expressed that there’s no guarantee that the venture will push through.
